Outdoor Pursuits

Today, in Outdoor Pursuits, our class learned how to tie knots in a rope. I don't know if it's just me, but I have a hard time learning and memorizing all the particular techniques. I think it might be because I've never done anything like this before, and it's so much information to comprehend in such a short time. We also learned how to belay when climbing. This process was a little confusing, but I think with more practice, I will get better at it. Outdoor Pursuits isn't one of my favorite classes only because I am new at everything we learn, and it's kind of overwhelming. Hopefully by the time we go down to the climbing wall at the ARC, I will have all these skills mastered because people's lives will be in my hands!

I totally agree with you. I haven't taken the class yet but I am really looking forward to it. However, I'm sure I will feel just like you do now. I'll be really excited but at the same time overwhelmed. I hope you get the hang of everything and really get something out of the class.

Hey Rachel: I can totally understand why you are a little uneasy about the class. It's def. non un-common to feel that way. The knots and information about climbing can get tricky! But don't worry, you will get it. Once you start applying what you learned to actually DOING it, you will see how it fits together. I did all this stuff at camp when I was young so it's a refresher for me. But the first time I learned everything I was way confused! Try to look at it in a positive light. By the end of this semester you will learn so many cool things that you thought you would never get through. At the end you'll think, "I did it". You'll be okay! :)

I totally understand, first off my outdoor experiences consist of cutting the grass at home. Knots in a rope is not my best skill as of yet, hopefully in the next few classes I can get the handle on it O well.
